Objective
You will be creating a substantial website which utitlizes all your basic knowledge of HTML, CSS and jQuery as well as a small amount of PHP and the interaction of these languages. The subject of your website is broad in its possibilities, but you should think of it like a working portfolio showcasing all your art, design and development abilities put to work on one primary web task. This should be for something that you actually want to use and promote.
If you want to sell something, promote a service you can offer, bring awareness to a cause matters to you, or provide instruction on a particular topic, this is acceptable as the subject of your site.
I am not asking for a portfolio website, but that the site serves as a good showcase of your abilities.
(Depending upon what you want to do, some versions of a portfolio website may be acceptable if they contain all the required content and methods, and are substantial enough.)
A few examples of types of sites that would fit the criteria, at least in content:
- Something like the design lab site
- A site that promotes and brings awareness to the arts in Amarillo, focusing on artists in Amarillo, showcasing their work, giving bios about each, with other pages holding content about the history of the city, pointing out interesting things in town relating to the arts.
- A site with tutorials, closely or vaguely related to one another, in which the user is guided through how to do different tasks. (How to execute different drawing styles, how to create particular effect in Blender, all with supporting files and videos to show.)
- A store with highly customizable products. When you first arrive at the site, there is a quiz or questionnairre which leads you to the area of the store that makes sense for you, or which narrows down the products based on your input.
An online magazine with articles, but also extra, interactive content.
Below are the requirements of your site:
• At least 8 pages of unique content.
• A clear and consistent brand for the site.
• Imagery that is consistent in style. No set amount, just imagery in general.
• Usage of PHP for includes, form processing, and for at least one other task of your choice.
• A quiz, or similarly interactive jQuery feature, that generates a response on the site upon completion.
• The site must change its look in some way over time on its own, based on some condition. This can happen over a long period or it can be a cyclical thing.
• The site must exist online, at a URL that you own.
• Site must be fully responsive, meaning:
All content must remain accounted for on smaller screens.
Imagery should be adapted so they still work appropriately on smaller format.
Navigation should be always present and easily accessible.
No content should extend outside the viewable area horizontally.
Items should be reformatted so they appear deliberate in their narrow format. (For example, if text input look almost the width of the screen, they should take on a 100% width.)
• A functional contact form.
• Usage of the <video> or <sound> element.
• Sound, valid code which is semantically proper, lean, and easily understood.
